Turkey Talk

"November is my LEAST favorite time of year!"

Ok, I admit that the title of my first entry with this blog is just a tad bit strange. To be honest, my desire to learn how to communicate with animals might be cause for some to question that "strangeness". I should of known that my watching Mr. Ed while growing up would affect me in one way or the other. I STILL know all the words to the theme song!

I read somewhere that they put peanut butter on Mr.Ed's lips that made his mouth move and twitch. To the unbelievers that may seem probable. I, however, have always felt that Wilbur was a very lucky human to have the wise Mr. Ed coaching him and offering his loyal friendship through life's ups and downs.

So back to this blog. I have attended a couple of workshops, and have been home studying "intuitive communication" as it is sometimes referred to. Now it's time to field test my abilities (or lack of?) with actual critters. I plan on documenting my journey with this blog. I'm thinking an animal a day for 45 days? My partner Nate actually suggested it, since I am attempting to amp up my daily writing practice. What makes this intuitive communication difficult is verification of the conversation. Not all animals speak as articulately AND out loud like Mr. Ed! So if I am having a nice little chat with a squirrel I have encountered on a walk there is really no way that I can know if what I think I heard is correct. Unfortunately, what a person "hears" sounds as if it is coming from themselves and not the animal. That being said, I have read it is recommended that I have conversations with animals that their human family can verify if I am on the right track. Piece of cake...right? As long as I don't weird out my family and friends (more than usual) when I ask if they mind me having tea and conversation with their pets.

I plan on taking a picture of the animal that I am attempting to converse with and will share how the conversation went. I've got a couple more days of studying to do before I start this little adventure, one thing I do know is it should be interesting!
